Teatro Catalina invites you to be part of our inaugural Musical Theatre Summit in
Chinandega, Nicaragua this summer!
July 10-17, 2022
Founded in 2010 by Katie Fitzgerald, Teatro Catalina believes that access to arts education in lower income communities, such as those in rural Nicaragua, is essential. Over the past eleven years, Teatro Catalina has focused on using theatre and arts education as a tool to teach individuals to dream outside their circumstances, give them a voice and help them recognize their full potential. Our year-round arts programing and large-scale productions have provided hundreds of people in the region of Chinandega, Nicaragua a chance to hone their skills as artists and to be a part of an uplifting and supportive community.
Our Musical Theatre Summit is a unique opportunity for you to connect and collaborate with the students of Teatro Catalina and spend time working with professional artists. Throughout the week, the student cohort (made up of 15 students from North America and 15 students from Nicaragua) will take workshops in dancing, singing, acting, choreography, directing, and more with artists who are working professionally in the Broadway/North American theatre industry. At the end of the week, there will be a final performance with your fellow artists at a local theatre - a culmination of your hard work!
We created this summit because we wanted to create a space where artists from different backgrounds and cultures could come together to inspire and encourage one another. The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on everyone, and many artists feel they have lost their way and are discouraged about their future. Our hope with this summit is that through this week-long experience of connecting, collaborating and creating alongside other artists, participants will leave with a reignited spirit to continue pursuing their passions and a further understanding of how they can use their art to change the world.
We are talking to several artists at the moment and will update this page as we confirm their participation.

Travel to Chinandega
Climb Cerro Negro
Teatro Catalina is located in Chinandega, Nicaragua which is in the northwest region of Nicaragua, about two and a half hours north of the capitol of Managua. Once we are in-country, we will travel all together by bus. Besides our two outings to Cerro Negro (the volcano we will climb) and the beach, we will spend the week in a gated compound that houses our dorms, cafeteria, rehearsal space and theatre.
